You want the bias tape to lie relatively flat, but you still want to be able to see where it used to be folded. Take the raw edge of the unfolded side and line it up with the edge of your fabric, right sides together. Pin or clip to hold in place. It looks complicated but it really isn't and once you get the hang of it, it goes fast.
